Strengthening leadership for educational management in the Americas: an action research strategy

The training of human resources for health (HRH) is a recurring concern. The Virtual Campus for Public Health (VCPH) – the educational platform of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) – seeks to improve access to public health education, emphasizing leadership training for teams that plan, implement, and evaluate policies and educational initiatives.

Food insecurity and sociodemographic factors in Latin America during the COVID-19 pandemic

Objective

To understand the association of food insecurity with sociodemographic factors in a sample population in Latin America during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods

This was a multicenter cross-sectional study conducted in 10 countries in Latin America using an online survey through various digital platforms from October 14, 2020 to February 15, 2021. Statistical analysis of data was performed by applying descriptive statistics, chi-square test, and logistic regression analysis. 

Maintaining the Region of the Americas free of polio: best practices for incident management support teams

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and its Member States have been leading the efforts to eradicate wild poliovirus in the Region of Americas since smallpox's successful elimination in 1971. The region became the first to be certified free of wild poliovirus in 1994. However, in July 2022, an unvaccinated patient with no recent travel history was diagnosed with poliomyelitis in the United States of America. In response to the emergence of a circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus in the United States, PAHO established the Polio Incident Management Support Team.
